Over 40 and Cannot Find a Job

If you have just been retrenched, or have just come back from your recent work abroad, and are already over 40 years old, chances are you will find it difficult to look for a new job. This is the age when you are considered too young to retire, yet too old to get a new job.

Managing a Family Business

Not all entrepreneurs start a business. Sometimes circumstances dictate that they take over a family business, hence becoming entrepreneurs by default. The first venture I managed put me in this situation. Being the eldest, after my father had a stroke, I was compelled to manage our small drugstore chain. It was far from my dream business and it was the start of a neophyte’s nightmare.

Job Hopping and its Consequences

I recently received an email asking for an advice. The sender was having a hard time getting a job due to what he thinks is his job-hopping record. Here’s the letter below:

“Hello Coach. I saw your article (in) the Manila Bulletin (Classifieds) and (it’s) nice to have tips like how to determine (if you are about to receive) a successful job offer. I believe you also welcome giving out advice to some people having a hard time getting a job because of (reasons) like: a number of previous short work periods or, should we shall we call it “job-hopping” due to conflicts. And now, it will have a negative effect (on my) future applications. Sir, what can you say about it and can it be resolved?”

Finding the Best Location for Your Retail Business

Everyone agrees that location is one of the most significant factors in the success of a retail business. However, among small entrepreneurs, it is rare that a scientific effort is employed when looking for a business location. Most decide on gut feel; others on superficial examination. Finding the ideal location for a retail store must be given top priority. To assist the entrepreneur in this quest, here is a list of some of the blunders to avoid:

How to Write a Winning Business Proposal

The business proposal is very crucial to a company. It is the primary tool to solicit a sale. Very often, the salesperson is not allowed to personally present her / his proposition and may be asked to just leave their business proposals for consideration. In other cases, after a brilliant presentation, the salesperson is then asked to submit a business proposal to close the deal. Either way, the business proposal plays a significant role.
